splash  Welcome to the LOUISE BROOKS SOCIETY, a web site dedicated to the life & times of the silent film star Louise Brooks (1906 – 1985). Launched in 1995, the LBS website is maintained for the enjoyment and edification of its many visitors. The Louise Brooks Society operates with the consent of the Estate of Louise Brooks (Louise Brooks Heirs, LC), who approve and support its use of the name and likeness of the actress.

This website — which numbers some 300 pages — contains a good deal of rare material and includes a biography, chronology, image galleries, an archive of articles and ephemera, historical information, commentary, links, and contributions from individuals from around the world. The filmography is the most comprehensive ever complied on the actress. The annotated bibliographies, when printed out, run hundreds of pages. Our motto comes from novelist Salman Rushdie, “To understand just one life, you have to swallow the world.” If the LBS has not quite swallowed a world, it has taken in an era. There is much to discover.

Menus at the top of every page organize the website according to various categories. Additionally, a search bar is also located at the top of every page for those looking for particular bits of information.
