Welcome to the LOUISE BROOKS SOCIETY, a web site dedicated to the life & times of the silent film star Louise Brooks (1906 – 1985). Launched in 1995, the LBS website is maintained for the enjoyment and edification of its many visitors. These pages contain rare material and include a biography, chronology, portrait galleries, a digital archive of articles and ephemera, historical information, commentary, links, and contributions from individuals from around the world. The filmography on the actress is the most comprehensive ever complied. The annotated bibliographies, when printed out, run hundreds of pages. Our motto comes from novelist Salman Rushdie, “To understand just one life, you have to swallow the world.” Though the LBS has not swallowed a world, it has taken in an era. There is much to discover.
