RECOMMENDED DVD's AND VIDEOS Only a handful of the 24 movies in which Louise Brooks appeared and which still exist are available on DVD or video. (Some films which have been commercially available in the past are now out-of-print and hard-to-find.) It's also important to note that some films are available from different distributors in slightly different versions - and the quality of these different releases does vary. Some films have been restored or remastered from archival prints, while others have been dubbed from second or third generation sources. BOOKS BY and ABOUT LOUISE BROOKS Two books every fan will want to own are Barry Paris' superb biography, Louise Brooks (first published in 1989), and the actress' own volume of autobiographical essays, Lulu in Hollywood (first published in 1984). Each are currently available in handsome, softcover editions from the University of Minnesota Press. The new edtion of Lulu in Hollywood is slightly expanded, and features an additional essay by Brooks along with an introduction by Kenneth Tynan. Also well worth tracking down is Louise Brooks: Portrait of an Anti-Star, by Rolland Jaccard. Though now out-of-print, some second-hand copies of this latter book are available.
